the background is turning a dark grey probably because you're using earlier than version 7 of internet explorer. anything before v.7 doesn't support transparent png files. v.7 and any other browser will support it.

you can add the transparency filter to the css, but then the text will be extremely hard to see. or you can upgrade your i.e. to version 7 (from microsoft.com), or you could use a different browser like firefox or opera.

i usually try to limit transparencies in layouts because of that problem, but i just really liked how this one came out.
